But the federal Training Minister disputes crisis calls from

One of the disquieting facts stemming from this is that plastic
bags can become serial killers
This has resulted in a ban on plastic bags being imposed there
early in 2002.
an increasingly crowded curriculum, maths is being sidelined.
The world's tropical forests continue to disappear with

from September through to December airborne pollen from olive

But recently a new trend has been evident - one person living in
a house
the rise and rise of the single person household.

This could be due to the fact that HDPE bags can not be put out for
collection with other household recyclables
The problem arises partly because charities have outposts in areas
of conflict:
Another cause for concern, the use of (DU), may also be less of a
problem than many fear
Another current concern about China is that 。。。。。。
The PCAU has found that even though bombs, troop movements and
landmines caused awful problems in Afghanistan, the most serious
long-term consequences have resulted from the uncontrolled use of
resources, particularly the cutting of
t says the drain is symptomatic of a maths crisis that has its
origins in the classroom.
But that had more to do with the collapse of investment in America
than with the rise in China
The pact of 2000 owed more to Nelson Mandela's patient mediation
than to the Burundian elite's own desire for peace

the world woke up to the issue
Different countries have adopted a range of approaches to
discourage the use of plastic bags in an attempt to cut down on the
number of bags finding their way into the environment
the government has implemented new regulations that will see only
thicker, more durable plastic bags produced.

Recycling your plastic shopping bags is one of the most obvious
courses of action

Given the costs and inconvenience associated with recycling, and
the fact that reuse only delays the plastic entering the
environment, the most sensible option is to cut down on the number
of plastic bags that you use, or stop using them altogether.

There are a range of alternatives to plastic bags

The seriousness of any of these problems will depend largely on
the length and severity of the war, and on how quickly aid agencies
can get in afterwards.

Rather than fight through the courts park by park, reserve by
reserve, theGovernment has opted to negotiate with them.

Faced with those perennial challenges renewables like
solar
power are becoming more viable options, particularly in smaller,
more remote communties.

growth.(延缓)
High winds have hindered firefighters in their efforts to put out

irreversible destruction of rainforests
Storms hampered the American-led advance on the city, bringing some
convoys to a standstill(to prevent someone doing something
easily)
They were warned of the ecological catastrophe to come( sudden
event that causes very great trouble or destruction)
The emigration of scientists is a catastrophe for the country(a bad
situation)
The approaching cyclone could exact a huge toll（cause a lot of
damage; cause many deaths:）
Flash floods cause havoc in Thai capital
The last few months have seen the progressive meltdown of the
country's political system.( complete failure, especially in
financial matters)
Fighting and shortages have brought normal life to a virtual
standstill in the city(a condition in which all movement or
activity has stopped)
spell a diseaster
cheating generates numerous unfavorable results
What concerns many people is that the long term effects of
consuming such foods cannot be predicted

Once let loose into the environment, plastic bags can cause
considerable harm, blocking drains and suffocating wildlife
mistaking the bag for food.

Plastic shopping bags have a surprisingly significant
environmental impact for something so seemingly innocuous

As well as being an eyesore (next time you are outside, have a

littering our streets and waterways), plastic shopping bags kill
large numbers of wildlife each year.『句型 as well as +ing ,』

Youth Hostels
Jo: Welcome to another BBC Learning English programme. I’m Jo
and
today we’re going to be talking about youth hostels.
Li: Yes.
Insert
A hundred years after the first youth hostel was created, do such
establishments
have a part to play in the 21st century? After all one of the
traditional images is of
big draughty rooms that you have to share with snoring strangers,
while being
ordered to do the chores and forgo many of life’s little
luxuries.
Jo: So Li, any ideas?
Li: Ah yes, he said it’s been a hundred years since the first youth
hostel
was created.
Jo: That’s right. The first youth hostel was started in Germany
back in
1909, 100 years ago. But do such establishments have a part to
play
in the 21st century? An establishment.
A part to
play in the 21st century.
Jo: One of the traditional images of a youth hostel is big draughty
rooms.
Jo: To snore. Snoring strangers. So you share draughty rooms
with
snoring strangers while being ordered to do the chores.
Jo: While being ordered to do the chores and forgo life’s little
luxuries. To
forgo something.
嗯，Jo 这么说a youth
hostel is a place to stay where you share a room and do chores.
That
doesn’t sound too pleasant.
Jo: A person who travels around and stays in different hostels is a
youth
hosteller, youth hosteller, but there is a verb to youth hostel.
Youth
hostelling means to travel around and stay in different hostels.
Here’s
one youth hosteller with her reasons.
Insert
It’s good value as well, it's not just that they’re cheap, although
nowadays you’re
paying £10 to £15 most nights, it’s hot showers, and good drying
room facilities,
good kitchen facilities. And most of the hostels I’ve stayed at
have been very well
kitted out.
Jo: She said it’s good value. Nowadays you’re paying £10 to £15
most
nights.
Jo: Hot showers, good drying room facilities and good kitchen
facilities.
Jo: Most of the hostels are well kitted out.
On BBC Learning English today we’re talking about youth hostels
to
celebrate the 100th year of youth hostelling. Now this youth
hosteller
has been youth hostelling for 13 years. Her father did it before
her and
her grandfather did it before the Second World War.
Insert
I’ve been hostelling I think for about 13 years and my dad
obviously did it before
that and my grandfather, he was certainly youth hostelling before
the Second
World War, back in the days when you weren’t allowed to turn up any
way other
than on foot and by bike. There was no drinking in the hostel and
you had to do
your chores before you were allowed out in the morning.
Jo: So when her grandfather was a youth hosteller, you weren’t
allowed to
turn up any way other than on foot and by bike.
Li: To be allowed to do something 获准做某事turn up 前来，抵达。
Jo: So when you walk somewhere we always say on foot but if you
travel
somewhere in something we use by. By bike, by car, by bus,
etc.
自行车，火车等等都需要用另一个介词by, by bike and by train.
Jo: When she says there was no drinking she means no drinking
alcohol.
And you had to do your chores before you were allowed out in
the
morning.
Here’s another youth hosteller.
Insert
They’re a bit more swish than they used to be – we used to have to
do chores
and the wardens would make you clean the toilets, sweep the
dormitories or
whatever, and there’s none of that anymore.
Jo: So he said they are more swish than they used to be.
Swish.
Jo: He also remembers how they used to have to do chores. He said
the
wardens would make you clean the toilets or sweep the
dormitories.
The wardens.
sweep.
Jo: He says there’s none of that anymore. So youth hostels are
changing.
Here’s Duncan Simpson from the YHA, the Youth Hostelling
Association.
movement in society.
Jo: If you look at the movement in society, people have looked for
more
privacy and more comfort in recent times.
Jo: Youth hostels need to reflect that and meet what people are
looking for.
Here’s Duncan.
Insert
If you look at the movement for society, people have looked for
more and more
privacy and, to a degree, more comfort. And we need to reflect that
and meet
what people are looking for.
Have you ever stayed in one Jo?
Jo: Yes, many times. I’d really recommend them if you want to
save
money and meet people but if you’re looking for a relaxing,
luxurious
holiday, then a hotel might be better for you. Something else I
would
really recommend is our Learning English website, it’s:
www.bbcchina.com.cn.
Jo: Bye for now everyone.

and positive),

Boys
or Men。

intro: kimono / hiphop style clothes(casual clothes)

opening:

once a year, I visited Japan on my vocation, and during my
stay there, what impressed me most is their traditional clothes-
Kimono.

Kimono:

it is a kind of traditional Japanese formal clothes for
women. and it is made of silk and cloth, look quite gorgeous on
women.

Interestingly, there is a pillow-like cushion on their
back.

but one trouble is that if a woman wants to wear it, it
usually takes her hours to put it on.

occasions:

And for Japanese women, they usually wear these clothes on
some important occasions, such as on their weddings, or on some
traditional festivals.

culture:

Well, in my opinion, kimonos stand for their culture,
and when you look at these clothes, you can also understand their
personality, that is their women are generally
conservative.

Good luck for everyone !

Using a computer every day can have more negative than positive
effects on young children。
Do you agree or disagree?
I tend to agree that
young children can be negatively affected by too
much time spent on the computer every day. This is partly because sitting in
front of a screen for too long can be damaging to both the eyes and
the physical posture of young child, regardless of what they are
using the computer for。
However, the main concern is about the type of computer
activities that attract children. These are often electronic games
that tend to be very intense and rather violent. The player is
usually the “hero” of the game and too much exposure can encourage children to be
self-centered and insensitive to
others。
　　Even
when children use a computer of other purposes, such
as getting information or emailing friends, it is
no substitute for human interaction. Spending time with other
children and sharing non-virtual
experiences is an important part of a children’s
development that cannot be provided by a computer。
In spite of this, the obvious benefits of computer skills for
young children cannot be denied. Their adult world will be changing constantly in terms of
technology and the Internet is the key to all the
knowledge and information available in the world today. Therefore
it is important that children learn at an early age to use the
equipment enthusiastically and with confidence as they will need
these skills throughout their studies and working lives。
I think the main point is to make sure the young children do not
overuse computers. Parents must ensure that their children learn to
enjoy other kinds of activity and not simply sit at home, learning
to live in a virtual world。

I tend to agree that young children can be negatively affected by
too much time spent on the computer every day。
I am inclined to think that…; I tend to believe that…

This is partly because sitting in front of a screen for
too long can be damaging to both the eyes and the physical posture
of young child, regardless of what they are using the computer
for。
The traffic congestion is because of the poor road
system。
The traffic congestion is partly because of the poor road
system。
类似表达：be largely due to

a。 Even when children use a computer of other purposes, such
as getting information or emailing friends…
b. purpose比较抽象，such as getting information or emailing
Some technologies are of negative impact. →
Some technologies, such as weapons of mass destruction, are
of negative impact。
类似细化抽象名词的表达：from…to…; whether…or…;
During those years when I was in China, I had the
opportunity to work closely with Chinese translators. →
During those years when I was in China, I had the opportunity
to work closely with Chinese translators, from beginners fresh out
of school to those most capable senior professors。
Governments should attach great importance to
education.→
Governments, whether rich or poor, should attach great
importance to education。

a。 Too much exposure can encourage children to be
self-centered and insensitive to others。
If children get access to too much undesirable information
on the Internet, then it would undermine their personal growth. /
Gaining too much undesirable information on the Internet would
undermine their personal growth。
Heavy exposure to undesirable information on the Internet
would undermine the personal growth of children。

a。 Their adult world will be changing constantly in terms of
technology
In contemporary society, science and technology are advancing
rapidly→
The world we are living in is changing constantly in terms of
science technology。(in terms of globalization / urbanization /
fashion…)
