cannot say I have ever been a huge fan of Michael Jackson. After
all, when I heard about him, he was trapped in a series of
scandals, which could be used to prove how immoral capitalist
societies were in "ideology"
class.&nbsp;I,&nbsp;a fledgling college
freshman back then (even trying to break off the brainwashing
nonsense),&nbsp;could not admit to myself that I was
completely&nbsp;infatuated with his incredibly
infectious dance. Why did he have to grab his crotch? I asked
myself with&nbsp;embarrassment, while holding back my
instinctive desire to imitate his moves.</SPAN></P>

passed, which gave me a totally different perspective on both death
of his and my grandma's. I even imagined that my grandma and MJ
danced together hand in hand in the happy-forever land. What a

arteries. When "Dangerous" started to rock with the opening strong
beats, my heart swelled up as if it could not contain that much of
thunder and lightning. Gentle as "gone too soon”, it stopped my
hands from shaking. I appreciate the way "You Are Not Alone"
consoled me, for it was exactly what I needed to be
told.</SPAN></P>

human being in this overcrowded world. He must have been lonely,
very lonely, extremely lonely. After all, who on this planet has
ever known what underneath that once-black-then-white skin really
was? He was, still is and will always be a symbol. The symbol will
be immortal,&nbsp;whereas the body
will&nbsp;decompose&nbsp;and eventually
turn into ashes.</SPAN></P>

screen,&nbsp;his face
was&nbsp;glowing&nbsp;in ecstasy when he
sang&nbsp;the songs; and from what I experienced, that
must have been the type of happiness that people can scarcely bear.
In my picture, MJ smiled and&nbsp;replied with
his&nbsp;shiny voice, “Yes, this is it.”</SPAN></P>

            <title>Don't like Chinese TV? It's not meant for you</title>

            <description><![CDATA[<p><font FACE="Verdana">Being insanely busy, I haven't updated the
blog lately. To warm it up a little bit, I'm gonna post this
article I wrote for "<i>Global Times</I>". It was published on 9th
Oct. The version on paper is slightly different from this original
one, for reasons known to everybody.</FONT></P>
<p><font FACE="Verdana"><b><br /></B></FONT></P>
<p><b><span LANG="EN-US" XML:LANG="EN-US"><font FACE="Verdana">Don’t like Chinese TV? It’s not meant for
you</FONT></SPAN></B></P>
<p><font FACE="Verdana">As proud as I am of my job, I’m always a
little bit reluctant to tell people that I’m a scriptwriter. One of
the two reasons (I’d rather keep the other one secret) is that a
lot of them (not just expats) would say, “Oh, Chinese TV series
suck.” This is right after they express their admiration for me
being a financially independent freelancer.</FONT></P>
<p><font FACE="Verdana">Do Chinese TV series suck? People seem to
have plenty of arguments to prove they do. Compared with American
TV series, Chinese shows obviously lack creativity and variety.
Japanese TV series tend to explore the beauty of details, of which
their Chinese counterparts are significantly devoid. Even Korean TV
series, widely considered cheesy and predictable, are at least
better with respect to costume design and makeup.</FONT></P>
<p><span LANG="EN-US" XML:LANG="EN-US"><font FACE="Verdana">Do you
think Chinese TV series suck? Some of those holding a low opinion
of Chinese TV series, insist upon asking me this question. Trying
to get some support from an insider, these people expect me to say,
“Yes.” Most of the time, I nod and remain silent, not willing to
debate the subject any further.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<p><font FACE="Verdana">In an effort to help, some warm-hearted
people even suggest stories for me to work on, but, unfortunately,
I have to veto most of their ideas. Not because they are without
merit, but because there is simply no chance to make them into TV
series</FONT> <i><font FACE="Verdana">in
China</FONT></I><font FACE="Verdana">. According to the current
regulations (most of which are unwritten but known to every
scriptwriter), TV series cannot talk about murder, premarital sex,
homosexuality, etc. Forget politics and human rights. In this
country, there has never been any film or TV series rating system,
but the state administration has deliberately kept films and TV
series that exceed PG 13 out of people’s reach. Chinese
scriptwriters are dancing with fetters. Alvin Ailey would have a
hard time choreographing if a requirement was that all dancers must
keep both feet on the ground at all times.</FONT></P>
<p><span LANG="EN-US" XML:LANG="EN-US"><font FACE="Verdana">Looking
for guidance, one day I asked a more experienced scriptwriter how
he dealt with the inevitable “Chinese TV series suck” conversation.
He shrugged and replied, ”TV series are not for those people.” What
about us scriptwriters? As far as I know, most scriptwriters only
watch TV series for work. Some do not even have a TV set in their
house. As for me, when I have to watch TV, I always hold the
remote, and rarely spend more than 3 minutes on any one program. TV
series are not for scriptwriters either, my friend proclaimed,
because scriptwriters do not have&nbsp; time to
waste.</FONT></SPAN></P>
<p><font FACE="Verdana">This is the key point! TV series are for
those with plenty of time to kill. Unable to find a better option
for killing time, these people turn to watching TV. According to
some market surveys, 35-50 year old women are the target audience
of TV series. Most of those women go back home at 6PM, finish
dinner at 7, and by 7:30 are sitting on their couches, having just
finished the dishes. They have neither parties to attend, nor
friends to visit. For them, books are too complicated, and the
theater is prohibitively expensive. Undoubtedly, watching TV series
is the most convenient and cheapest form of relaxing (some may say
numbing) entertainment.</FONT></P>
<p><font FACE="Verdana">What matters here, is that these women do
not think Chinese TV series suck. How could they? These series are
tailor-made for them. A case in point is the family ethics genre,
the most popular type of Chinese series. These are designed to
tackle the issues confronted by middle-aged women, who are
exhausted by their husbands’ affairs, mother-in-laws that never get
along, and other difficulties associated with family life. Women
connect on an emotional level with protagonists whom they can
identify. Once this emotional bond is solidified, the audience is
captive and will never change the channel. Kung fu and detective
series, the other two popular genres in China, also rely on
creating connections with their target demographic. The plotlines
are fairly Chinese and, therefore, irreplaceable. For instance,
heroes on TV are able to kill corrupt officials with their pinkies,
fulfilling the desires of the common people, who hate these
officials but are powerless to confront them.</FONT></P>
<p><font FACE="Verdana">In 2005, CCTV aired the first season of
“Desperate Housewives.” The average viewer rating of the series was
0.4%, much lower than that of many Chinese TV series aired during
the same time slot. Part of reason was that many scenes of the
series were cut out, rendering the storyline cryptic and almost
meaningless. But I argue that even with these scenes included, the
differences between Chinese and Western audiences’ viewing habits
would preclude a better showing.</FONT></P>

            <description><![CDATA[一直觉得奔丧这两个字是力度千钧的，好像京胡紧绷了的弦，稍一弹拨便发出凄厉的一声，硬生生地崩断；而与此同时，鼓点偏又敲得急如骤雨，催得远人步伐一紧再紧，归乡之路片刻不得安宁。

<div>可想像与感受之间总隔着一条大河，真切的感受比虚幻的想像要剧烈千万倍。</DIV>

第二本库切，他第一次得布克奖的作品。

K是一个长了兔唇的智力迟缓者，从小就被母亲和周围的人瞧不起，从特殊学校毕业后，他成了一个园丁。为富人打扫房间的母亲身患重病，想要离开开普敦，回到她出生的地方去。K申请离城的通行证未果后，带着母亲上路。母亲死在途中，而K则被抓进了一个类似集中营的劳作社。K从里头逃了出来，独自在荒野之中种植南瓜等作物。一年后，K被当作游击队成员被当局投入大牢，在那里，他开始绝食。再次逃脱后，遇见几个流浪者，和其中一个女人春宵一度后，K意识到自己是一个园丁，因为他想成为一个园丁。</DIV>

这是一本很难评价的小说，大部分时候就页面上只有K一个人，而他并不是一个有趣的人物，不是鲁宾逊，也非星期五。这样一个活在自己苍白世界里的人，与外头的丑陋世界格格不入，谁也不能反衬谁的美与丑，只僵硬地对立着，了结了一切乌托邦的希望。库切就是这样，从不用冷字，却总是把世界描绘成一块棱角分明的冰块。此K不仅仅名字与卡夫卡的K名字相同。然而，K并不想死，比起活得精彩的聪明人，K实际上具有更大的决心：如果不能以自己的方式活，不如不活。而他的方式，就是作一个园丁，充分享受生命的每一分钟。从这个意义上说，库切赋予了人生由内而外的光亮。</DIV>

其中以医生为第一人称的第二章，是我最喜欢的一段。我喜欢这一句：“迈克尔斯是心里装满着让荒野长满南瓜花的想像，他是另一个太忙碌、太愚蠢又太专心的人，他听不到历史车轮的隆隆声。”</DIV>

比起长篇小说，我对短篇小说的认知更是半桶水的半桶水。但如果说长篇小说是一次漫长而详尽的解剖的话，短篇小说则可算作刀口，一道道，短而急，触目惊心。卡佛如今倍受推崇，讽刺的是，受推崇地正是底层小人物泛着水洗蓝的无力与苍白。我选择了把书放在马桶水箱上，每次解决问题时看上一小段，算是对作家最好的致敬么？毕竟卡佛说，诚实地写作，幸运的话，最终有一天作品会被人读到的。<br />

<br />
十二篇小说之中给我印象最深刻的是最后一篇《大教堂》，长长的人生在短短的段落里交代清楚，随即进入一个平静地地带，尔后一个光亮突然被点燃，一个转身质朴却动人心弦。这似乎就是卡佛的模式。这让我不由得想像作家的模样，一个饱经了风霜的美国南方人，红脖子，皱纹像干苔藓一样铺展在他的脸上；眼睛是灰色的，不光亮也不浑浊，只透着坚毅和对抗的顽强。<br />

<br />
比起长篇，短篇小说更有电影的特质，语言也更需要有画面感；而所谓的极简主义还讲究省略，讲究意在言外。就这两条标准而言，卡佛无疑是优秀的。只是文学史给短篇小说的垂青，总是太少。而我自己，大概还太年轻，有太多的话要说。<br />

李洱看来挺明白韦小宝骗人的法则，即在细节上作到越真实越好，只在最大的关节处撒弥天大谎。花腔里的历史人物都是真的，只有谐音个人的主人公葛任是个虚构的人物，当然有人说葛任影射的，乃文弱书生瞿秋白。多角度观察+历史文本辅佐+非线性叙事=花腔，个人这只蚂蚁在无产阶级历史这头大象脚底下，只好耍花腔。此书流畅，结构精巧，但却读后却总觉得痒痒没被挠到。葛任这样一个具有象征意义的人物，面目仍旧模糊，毫无行动力，就像块木头。理想与个人的冲突被弱化了，明明该是白刀子进红刀子出的，最终却成了沉闷的谈判。为什么这么写，是否有政治上的原因？我不得而知。<br />]]></description>

被人问及最喜欢的小说，我往往张口结舌，答不上来：喜欢的小说太多，要说最总是难以抉择。但现在如果人再问，我可以答说：喜欢的有很多，但个人觉得最伟大的小说，非《卡拉马佐夫兄弟》莫属。这是一本伟大得让人如何称赞都不过分的小说，它包罗万象，纯粹，癫狂，拥有穿透人心的非凡力量。

八百多页（英文一千页出头）的小说讲的故事很简单：米嘉、伊万和阿辽沙是卡拉马佐夫家的三兄弟，三人的父亲费尔尧多是个好酒色的混蛋，不但私吞了大儿子米嘉母亲留给儿子的遗产，还一心要抢米嘉深爱的女人。米嘉某天夜里潜入父亲家中，打伤了家奴，费尔尧多的私生子斯乜尔加科夫趁米嘉逃跑后，将父亲杀死。米嘉含冤入狱，伊万和阿辽沙营救不成。米嘉最后被判有罪，流放西伯利亚。</DIV>

可以说陀氏一生都在思考那几个问题，从前分散在各本小说的，如今糅合在了一本书中，并达到了新的高度。我们可以从阿辽沙身上看到梅希金公爵的影子，伊万是不提拿破仑的拉斯科尔尼科夫。米嘉，则是陀氏眼里典型的俄罗斯人：半个混蛋和某种无与伦比的善组合起来的一个怪东西。</DIV>

问题一：如果上帝真的不存在，人怎么还会坚守道德呢？陀思妥耶夫斯基让伊万作为虚无主义的代表，让佐西马长老作教会的代表，分两卷来讨论这个问题。伊万的虚无咄咄逼人，佐西马的对抗却软绵绵得奇怪。伊万认识到——也是陀氏的观点——就作为道德上的需要，上帝也是要存在的！在没有上帝作为最后的审判的世界里，人爱怎么堕落便怎么堕落。人要爱他的罪，肩负所有人的罪，陀氏说，这样才有希望。在俄罗斯修士一卷最后一章中，阿辽沙顿悟之后跪下亲吻大地的一段，是文学史上最美最富表现力的篇章。</DIV>

问题二：恶与罪。米嘉刚刚被抓的时候，读者还在像看普通侦探小说那样想，到底是谁杀了费尔尧多呢？但大段大段关于罪的讨论之后，读者逐渐明白谁杀了人并不是重点。三兄弟谁不希望这样堕落的父亲死掉？如果产生了这样的念头，是否就已经是罪了？罪是什么？伊万因为认为自己才是真正的凶手，因为他“似乎”纵容了私生子行凶，因而发了疯病，性命垂危。米嘉愿意承受西伯利亚之苦，因为他的确曾经“想过”要杀死父亲。恶是普遍存在的，无孔不入的，它掌控所有人。好像善良只是漆黑中最渺茫的一道亮光，稍一放松便湮没其中。</DIV>

问题三：救赎。据说陀氏本来要写一本以孩童为主要人物的小说，但后来却改变了想法，只是将孩童的主题作为书中的一部分。当然救赎并不是只孩子，只是孩子们象征着救赎的希望，孩子超越父亲的罪，而得到最终的救赎。可是小说之中，所有的孩子都活在父亲罪的阴影之下，或是自杀，或是放逐，或是堕落。不过希望还在，弑父本身就已经有足够的象征意义。</DIV>

陀氏的书是晦涩的，他表达得十分直接，却有常常自相矛盾，不是因为作家力有不逮，相反恰恰是他天才的明证。他笔下的每一个人物，都剧烈，兼具水与火的特质：格露茜亚的手段，卡嘉法庭上的崩溃，佐西马长老的一鞠躬，郭辽金的早熟都惊心动魄，伊柳沙的一句“这实在是太欺负人了”催人泪下。读完此书，我不禁要问到底是怎样的心灵，才能能够承受如此赤裸裸地思考和追问。仅仅作为一个不太认真与称职的读者，在读到那些句子时，我几乎已经无法控制自己沸腾的心绪。</DIV>

看小剧场的话剧的好处就是离演员真的很近，当他们面对观众是，双眼看的就是坐在前排的你。这部把十九世纪喜剧剧作家费多的剧本合在一起演的话剧《费多等等》，很好笑，没什么惊天动地的大事，全是在家长里短中较劲，充分体现了法语歇斯底里的精彩。<br />

去中国美术馆看特纳的画展，看完后证明骑车四十分钟去四十分钟回是值得的。展出共有112幅油画和水彩画，包括特纳(J.W.M
Turner)早、中、晚期的作品。其中印象最深刻的是这两幅，第一幅叫《海上渔夫》，第二幅叫《暴风雪-汽船离港》。<br />
<br />
《海上渔夫》是特纳第一幅展出的油画作品，当时他年仅21岁。从这112幅作品来看，他从这幅画开始就确立了他日后的构图风格，一道凌厉的日光或月光处于画布中心（略偏），其余部分则是昏沉沉地晦暗。震撼人心处来自于墨绿色的海。特纳把动荡的海凝固成一块似有魔法的、不详的玉石，观者只需要再靠近一分，就像是会被卷进永恒的漩涡之中，不得超生。（根据BBC短片：自然凌驾于人类之上的力量是特纳终身的主题。）看画时，我几乎咬牙切齿，他一个毛头小伙，怎么能把深沉的恐惧画得这么传神？！<br />

<br />
比起《海上渔夫》，《暴风雪-汽船离港》看起来更为狂暴，但却是特纳晚期的作品。特纳一生功成名就，生前身后的好处都占了，但看起来他还是不快乐。年满甲子，他作画的方法越来越不正统，越来越混乱。画给人的眩晕感愈发强烈了，不看标题，观者几乎不知道画的是什么。那些晦暗比五十年前更晦暗，阴沉比五十年前更阴沉。不知道为什么，我总觉得这幅画蕴藏着某种对人生的恨意，恨人生太长，亦或苦短？<br />

<br />
当然，作为一个风景画家，特纳也画了许多相对“阳光”的画作，大部分作品里，景物都沉浸在日出或日落的光晕之中，灰调子的黄、橙、蓝和褐色几乎被应用在他的每一幅画里。因为是画水彩画出身，特纳把水彩的技巧应用于油画当中，形成了渐染的效果。在他那里，几乎所有的面目都是模糊的。正因为如此，特纳被认为是印象派的启蒙者。据说莫奈就曾经仔细研究过他的绘画技法。<br />

            <title>虚无的尾巴</title>

因为上一本书的最后一章，提到了千里迢迢要去多佛自杀的葛斯特罗，所以便翻出《李尔王》来看看。从前并没仔细读过的。李尔由一国之君落得荒野裸身悲号，力度千钧，加上傻子和埃德加假扮的可怜的汤姆插科打诨，活脱脱一幅世俗人情画。如此看来莎翁相当的Cynical，仿佛认定恶是某种自然而然的状态，而善则是需要不断辛勤培植的。其中几段对话都提到人脱掉了衣服，便恢复了本来赤条条来去无牵挂的状态，让此剧有了一丝佛家的意思，让人嗅到了些虚无主义的味道。（佛的“无”与“虚无”想去甚远，但习者却很容易只见山不是山，不能见水还是水。）在《李尔王》之中，对上帝的信仰时时刻刻受到挑战，某种意义上说，《李尔王》里的一干人等合起来就是约伯，这个约伯的世界最后虽然终于乾坤归位，硝烟散尽，但虚无的迷雾却留下了触手可及的痕迹。<br />

<br />
托尔斯泰评价说《李尔王》情节不可信，骗人的杀人的都过于出乎常理。但我想受限于戏剧的长度，恐怕也只能如此。<br />

大半夜的看关于自杀的书是不明智的，最直接的结果就是两天连续失眠，当然也不尽然是此书的错，这世上总是有许多让人咂摸不透的问题。<br />

<br />
从加缪说“自杀是第一的哲学问题”往回叙述，作者吴飞讨论了从古至今哲学家、神学家关于自杀的观点。因为有死亡，才更该过更美，更有德行的生活，苏格拉底在柏拉图的《斐多篇》里关于自杀的态度十分模棱两可。柏拉图则反对自杀，认为自杀是对城邦的罪。但斯多亚学派认为，如果人是为了追求更高的幸福，自杀应该是被容许的。奥古斯丁继承亚里士多德，旗帜鲜明地指自杀是对上帝的罪，无论是否是为了某种所谓更高的善。进一步，托马斯·阿奎那则干脆宣称自杀违背了自然法、人法和神法。<br />

<br />
基督教神学真是逻辑训练的好材料，首先肯定上帝是最高的善，然后再讨论灵魂是否不朽，灵魂与身体的关系，身体与上帝的关系，自由意志与灵魂的关系……世上的，乃至此世之外的，一切都被重新设定了。相比较起来，中国哲学真是再此世俗不过。<br />

<br />
处罚自杀者，这一行为看来十分可笑，好像是在放马后炮——貌似你还能再把我怎么着。但在但丁那里却十分严肃，皮埃尔，那个因为蒙冤自杀的忠臣，平常人眼里看来的悲剧英雄，不但没上天堂，反而落到了地狱第七层，而且因为灵魂与身体分离，他不得不栖身于一棵满身毒瘤的黑树里，终日忍受被一只乌鸦吞吃自己的叶子之苦。啊，上帝这个暴君，人世间的善恶在他那里不文一名，他使你死，他使你活。<br />

<br />
书本最后讨论了《李尔王》里没有成功的自杀，意思是自杀者希望上帝存在，却有十分清楚上帝不存在——他怎么能存在呢，当这世上有这么多的苦难与恶——有着这样的双重观念，最终无疑将导向自我毁灭。<br />

頂著文學學士的帽子好幾年了，到如今好歹完整地讀完了一部“元曲”，《牡丹亭》。在文學史上，這部作品的全名恐怕該是“反封建禮教的巨著《牡丹亭》”。我們對文學作品的評判，不是反封就是反資，這種論調真是讓人如吞蒼蠅。<br />

<br />
《牡丹亭》就是一個傳奇故事。杜麗娘做夢與柳夢梅茍合，驚醒后郁郁而終；十殿閻羅感其情真，放其回陽跟隨柳生。柳夢梅情重，與鬼魂結下婚姻之約，開棺救麗娘回生。但麗娘之父杜寶認定此麗娘為鬼魅，要拿了柳夢梅，治他劫墳之罪，后皇帝金口，命一家人相認，皆大歡喜。<br />

<br />
在文學史中，杜麗娘熱烈地追求自由的愛情，被視作反禮教的典型形象。而她的父親杜寶，則被丑化為禮教的維護人。在劇中智退金兵，保全淮揚的英雄太守杜寶，就因為不肯相信死人能夠復生，就被貼上了“反動派”的標簽，何其荒謬！<br />

<br />
這《牡丹亭》并沒脫出“私定終身后花園，落難公子中狀元”的模式，杜麗娘從哪個角度看也不像是作者標簽的大家閨秀，雖然她堅定、勇敢，是全劇中最耀眼的人
物。相比之下，柳夢梅則不甚討人喜歡，他好色又羅嗦，高達八斗的文才卻沒顯露出來。平心而論，劇中許多的曲折都是為戲而戲，決計不是有意識的反什么禮教。
恰恰相反，從某些句子看，湯顯祖還是所謂的“禮教”的維護者。<br />
<br />
然而，不反禮教，并不掩蓋了《牡丹亭》的光彩。他結構之工整，唱詞之佳，幾百年讀來仍叫人贊嘆。游園、幽媾、冥誓幾段，幾可算是字字珠璣。
那欲說還休的風情萬種，才是湯顯祖的拿手好戲。<br />

prefer the movies based on the books to the books themselves. Books
are kind of tedious, pedantic, and pretentious. Easily to say Mr.
Tolkien is a very conservative person, following almost all social
rules. Unsurprisingly, the language is very old-fashioned, full of
beautiful verses.<br />

No matter how good it is, I still see these as fantasy novels, of
which the main purpose is for entertainment.<br />
