昆西琼斯在视觉艺术学院的演讲 

第12届上海国际电影节圆满的结束了，我终于有时间来说说我的好朋友，昆西·琼斯（Quincy Jones）。

我想了很多词，我想用尽量简单的词去定义昆西，但我发现这真是很难。昆西无疑是美国音乐界最重要的人物，他已经不是单纯的“有名”了——1985年，他联合了45位国际巨星，为非洲的慈善活动合作了一首“We are the world”，相信你一定听过；他为Michael Jackson制作的专辑Thriller一共卖出了5千万张，是世界上最畅销的专辑！迄今为止，Quincy已经获得了27个格莱美奖（Grammy提名79次），7次奥斯卡奖提名，并获得了奥斯卡终身成就奖（the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award）。除了音乐方面的成就，Quincy也是慈善家、企业家、社会活动家……

在这次上海国际电影节期间，Quincy到了上海视觉艺术学院来给学生们做一个讲座。当天来了很多学生，大大的教师座无虚席，龚学平校长也亲自来到现场。

Quincy出生在芝加哥的黑人区，他的父亲是名木匠，专门给当地黑帮干活。所以小时候的Quincy脑袋里只想着打架、赚大钱，想自己有朝一日也成为一个黑帮的混混。直到有一天，当他和其他小混混又去打砸抢的时候，发现了一架钢琴，不可思议的事情发生了，就像一道灵光，Quincy忽然明白了原来这就是自己要为之奋斗终身的东西，于是就有了现在我们眼前这个国宝级的人物！（我的中文可没这么好，这来自当天的翻译沈家春）

My father worked as a master carpenter in the Bremerton Navy shipyard, but I was still dreaming of becoming a thug. We were the first black kids in town and Chicago had provided us with all the training we needed to take over the turf.
One night, we broke into an armory – which was also our recreation center – to steal some food. We stuffed ourselves with lemon meringue pie and ice cream, which then led to a food fight. I was like the Monkey King, eating all of those peaches of immortality in Heaven.
Afterwards, we split up and I broke into an administration room...and in the dark, I spotted a little spinet piano.

I was about to leave, but for some reason, I didn’t... and I slowly walked over and stared at that piano, then I let my fingers slowly slide down to touch the keys.

This was the moment of truth for me – every cell in my body knew in a heartbeat that music would be the dream of my life forever. Food and water would feed my body, but music would nourish my mind, heart and soul.
I gave up gangs from that point forward and started channeling my life to music.

在和中国学生的交流中，Quincy感到了他们对知识的渴求，他因此对音乐充满了希望。在演讲的最后，Quincy甚至把自己的Email告诉了当场的学生，用以鼓励他们。这可是我以前没见过的！

·When life begins to seem like too much, we should take a moment to let the soul catch up with the body. Go out and find a song you love, a poem that touches your heart, and take the time to let the whisper of Heaven's voice come into your mind. Everyday that you wake up and are still above the ground, that should be the only reason you need to be happy.

Your cosmetics did a lot to introduce bold colours.Are you doing a similar thing for interiors with house of Yue-Sai?

Yes,the hallmark of our desigh is really colour,which is a very new thing here.Brown and deige still dominate, and the Chinese use a lot of fake wood in their furniture.I like to use matural materials,such as bone,silk and feathers.

Can you sum up the Chinese attitude towards design?

People think if it is expensive it must be good.They are beginning to understand what design is but haven't yet become good at creating a very individual look.

Do you have particular favourites in fashion or interiors?

Fashion designer Han Feng is doing good things.She can make things that are very inexpensive look extremely expensive.She's rare one. I think there are very few Chinese designers who are really good though; they need more time.

Do you teel you had a big impact on women's style and self-expression?

I think my life has had a huge impact on Chinese sexual mores.I married a foreigner; I made that OK.Then I got a divorce - that was a real taboo. But I think the fact that I tald alout these things made it OK for people. The message was:'Your life doesn't fo down the drain if you do things differently.'

Do you see a time when Chinese designers will export their work?

Yes, but the challenge for designers is not exporting the readitional but tinding their own style.

Pavillon de Costes是法国最顶级的餐厅之一，这次上海新天地的新店可是他们第一次在法国以外的地方开的。以前我去新天地也不是特别多，不过看到这么漂亮的Pavillon de Costes，我想我以后也会常去吧，当然他们老板如果愿意请我的话，哈！

上海国际电影节要成为更有影响力的、真正的国际电影节，没有国际的大明星怎么行呢？这些年来我们请到了很多大明星，安迪·麦克道威尔、休·杰克曼、真田广之、昆西琼斯、阿诺德科普森夫妇，甚至今天已经在天国的娜塔莎……

我们邀请这些明星来，其实是用“电影”这个很好的文化交流的平台来让让他们了解中国、了解上海，也更了解中国电影，我们不断的做这些事情是为了提升中国在国际上的地位。就好像现在，谁都不敢看我们不起，我们的经济，我们的文化，走到哪里都让我们感觉很有底气。

只是遗憾每年的这个时间都是拍摄影片的旺季，因为天气好嘛，大家都去拍戏了，所以要请到很多大明星也不是容易的事情，他们不是在拍片就是去给新片做宣传了，蛮难请来的。

Anyway，还是要不断的请！就算现在请了10个说yes的明星，在最后一分钟也难保证他们不说sorry。

最近看了金刚狼，很好看，是过瘾的电影，可能因为我也很喜欢Huge吧！希望大家也去看看！

Tonight I went to a most interesting event.  I was invited by the  Consul General of Mexi Miguel Barrio to visit a big navy sail ship from Mexico which is now parked on the Huang Pu River.  the Ship is called Cuauhtemoc, name of the last Astic King of Mexico.  It was a huge ship, with 260 on board.  tonight it sailed from Qing Dao after the celebration of 60 years of Chinese Naval History.  Here in Shanghai, it is a token of the friendship between Mexico and China.  The festive decoration on the boat, with its tall hulks were all lit up with light bulbs.  So magnificent.   Even the Chinese commander Xu Wei Bing was on board to welcome the Mexicans.  Lots of good looking people tonight.  The food cooked on board of the boat was of course, deliciously mexican.  And what is a Mexican party without the Mariachi's?

很可惜大多数这样出门的男人，他们不知道自己其实是可以很帅的，因为没有人告诉他们这样！

不过前段时间我在北京参加了LEON杂志的发布会，中文名字叫做《男人风尚》就是一本专门教男人穿衣打扮的，真是一件好事，希望以后能看到更多有品位，懂礼貌的帅哥。

他们做了个变身的活动，就是让三个原本普通的男孩子，处理一下，就变得更帅了！

其实他们之前也不错的，是有个人风格的，只不过着装有一个重要的理念就是“场合感”，也就是说，在什么样的场合你就要穿什么样的衣服。你们看到穿乱七八糟的艺术家，头发乱的，身上花花绿绿的，可能还穿着拖鞋，甚至光脚，但在他的展览上，他肯定不会这样；你看到Bill Gates穿T Shirt牛仔裤上班，但在参加公众活动时候他还是穿西装……这就是场合感。

我有一本叫做《中国绅士》的书，有些书摘可以和你们分享~

真正的绅士穿着是什么样的呢？你完全可以将量身定做的高档外衣与批量生产的普通成衣混搭穿着，这样既体现出绅士独享的上等品位，又讲求实际，不过分张扬。比如在你的休闲周末，用Levi’s牛仔裤搭配量身定做的粗呢外套，再穿一双价格不菲的皮鞋，效果丝毫不会亚于一整身名牌。

如果你不打领带，要把脖子露出来，那就不要让人看到你内衣的领缘！其实很多外国人根本不穿内衣的，我听说有些中国的明星也有不穿内衣的新闻。无论如何，想想007詹姆斯·邦德吧，在激情场面中，当他一把扯开衬衣的扣子，露出的一定是健硕的胸肌，决不会是件纯棉小背心。

我曾问过一个专家，如果某人的经济条件只够买一套西装和一条领带，那该买什么颜色？他说第一套是藏蓝色，领带是红色；如果再买的话，深灰色、黑灰色是好的。他不赞成买橄榄绿、浅咖啡色，这两种颜色使中国人的脸看上去更黄，但很深的咖啡色的西装是可以的，但是正如上文提到的，这种颜色只适合周末，或者运动场合—比如骑马打猎。

我以前也读过继子们如何合伙对付继母的故事，因此我对即将成为4个成人孩子的继母感到非常紧张。时至今日，我依然认为我的前夫是一位正真的绅士，在这个方面他做得相当好。我俩订婚后的一天，他告诉孩子们（当时我不在场）：“嗨，你们是我的孩子，我将永远爱你们，关心你们。只要你们需要，不管何时何地，我总是站在你们的一边！但我要你们知道，我准备娶一位新太太，她是我的生活中是最重要的女人，你们应该尊重她，尊重她也就是尊重我”。

他把孩子们放在有权利的一边，把我也放在正确的位置，这让孩子们知道他们的领地不会被别人侵占。自此，我以后的婚姻生活与继子们和平相处，相安无事。他们总是很尊重我。我希望你们也能在再婚前这么教育孩子们。

像其它方面一样，性也应该有它的礼节。我不是性学专家，但身为女人，我确实有一些看法，要谈谈在这个领域里男士该怎样表现。有人会说，激情高潮时哪有礼节可言！我不同意。激情时刻也是最关键的时刻，这时，女人可以很容易地辨别男人是否自私。

1．性的基本原则：你不是自私的，不能只顾自己的感受。性是两个人之间的事，你的表现直接影响你伙伴的愉快程度。

2．接触：不管你的激情如何肆意，也不可弄伤她。从做爱开始就表现得绅士些，除非你知道她很喜欢被粗暴地对待。女人热身需要时间，因此做爱前要充分的抚摸，对她，也是对你，这是完美做爱的序曲。

3．接吻：不要把嘴唇弄得潮乎乎的。女人最讨厌跟湿嗒嗒的嘴唇接吻了，这会使女人顿时激情全无！我就是这样。

4．请使用避孕套。这不仅保护你自己不受艾滋病或其他性病的侵害，而且避免使她怀孕。就算再怎么迫不及待也不要忘记使用避孕套。

5．在做爱中，最好的绅士爱侣总是在意先让女伴满足，而自私的爱人只会满足自己，不顾女伴的需要。

6．交流很关键。在做爱中，绅士应该和女伴交流，了解什么是她希望的，什么是她不要的。你可通过交流懂得什么使得她快乐，另外也要告诉她什么使你快乐（当然，女士也会同样待你）。

7．做爱结束后不要立刻翻身睡觉。女人不同于男人，她们在做爱后还需要被关注。哪怕有急事，你也别冷落了她，说些好听的话吧！你也同样想听到她的好话呀。

8． “一天之后”礼仪。如果昨晚你们过得很愉快，那么绅士应该在今天打个电话，更好的话，可以送花或礼物给她。女人对待如此象征性的姿态真的会回味无穷。

9．绅士总是对他的性关系持谨慎态度，不会让他人知道的。哪怕你再急于与人分享，也不要对你的朋友吹嘘，不要到处“广播”。

10．在性关系中，绅士应该是真诚的。如果你与女朋友有性关系后，她会十分肯定地认为她是你“特殊”的朋友，你们的关系就此发生转变。如果你不想将她当成特殊朋友，我劝你还是老老实实地把关系弄清楚，不要与女士发生性关系，如果你只是想和她上床而已，也要对她坦白地说清楚。

现在大家读完了这本书后，应该了解了不少与礼仪有关的知识。我希望你可以把这些交给你的孩子。“养不教，父之过”，如果你是一位父亲，你应该以身作则，让孩子学习怎样做个懂礼貌的人。我相信“教养”可以比“教育”为小孩子带来更多成功的机会。中国人说“三岁看老”，让孩子从小学习礼仪，这将是他们未来成功的第一步。

很多年前我就来过陕西拍片，《看东方》剧组拍摄了兵马俑、半坡遗址和很多陕西的古迹。千年我还来过西安，带了一帮好莱坞的明星，他们爱这里爱的不得了！

这次是从来没有来到黄帝陵，据说是5000年前，黄帝的衣冠冢。我这次也学到了很多东西，以前只是知道说自己是炎黄子孙，没想到这炎黄的意思就是炎帝和黄帝。作为一个在美国长大的华人，我很遗憾现在才知道这些很重要的知识，看来我需要做更多的功课和工作，让更多华人多多了解祖国的历史。

典礼前夜，和另一位嘉宾主持，被称作“巴蜀鬼才”的魏明伦老师一起讨论典礼的流程和内容。我发现他是一个非常敬业和认真的人。当晚他拿出一个扇面要我写字，我就写，魏先生，你真的是我的老师，希望以后经常在一起，提高我的文化水平啊！

第二天大早，我们就去了轩辕庙。我敬了三柱高香，求黄帝保佑我的亲人和朋友平安、健康！

这是有5000年历史的黄帝手植柏，七八个人都围抱不过来呢。

在现场的感受是非常震撼的。我相信很多华人，甚至是很多在国外工作和学习的人，都会很容易就被打动——我们都期望自己的祖国越来越强大，因为祖国越是腾飞，我们这些华人的声音就越是响亮，全世界谁都不敢看我们不起！

2006年的照片，现在她却已经在另一个世界了

Natasha Richardson在加拿大滑雪时，头部受到撞击，没有坚持下来，就这样匆匆的离去的。她还那么年轻啊！在电影《伯爵夫人》(US China Joint Production movie)中，她是光芒四射的女主角，我到现在都还不能相信她就这样离开了。

和现在很多一炮而红的女影星不同，在成名之前，Natasha走了很长的演艺道路，如果你没有看过她的任何影片，可以试试《伯爵夫人》，你就可以知道她是多么了不起的演员。她的母亲是传奇的Vanessa Redgrave， 她的auntie也是一有名的演员，叫做Lynn Redgrave。 当Natasha和Ralph Fiennes在上海拍摄《伯爵夫人》的时候我认识了她，那时候她要拍好几个月的电影，于是我们常常见面。她很喜欢上海，也喜欢来我家吃饭，我们一起去了很多派对。她特喜欢去布料市场，做了不知道多少件中国衣服。

电影拍摄之后，到了2006年，《伯爵夫人》被选为上海国际电影节的开幕影片，她作为嘉宾来到上海。那次她和老公一起来的，她的老公，另一个很有名的演员Liam Neilson，相信你一定看过他演的辛德勒的名单。其实Liam是为了陪她而过来，我问他说，你为了陪她从那么远赶过来，真辛苦啊！他回答说，我愿意为支持她做任何事情。这是一对让我觉得很感动的夫妻。

但Natasha还是走了，45岁，两个儿子，上一周她老公Liam的电影刚刚在美国公映就超过了1亿票房，多么大的成功啊，但她却永远无法分享这份喜悦了……

还有一位，Ron Silver，Tony奖获奖演员，病了好几年，也走了。他也同样很年轻！Ron是获得过Tony奖的演员，在纽约一直很火。他曾经告诉我他想为了服务国家开一个公共事务的办公室，他甚至可以说流利的中文，让我讶异不已。
 

我现在在好莱坞，这两位朋友的离去让整个好莱坞都笼罩上了悲哀的气氛。今年6月份的上海国际电影节又要开始了，和以往3年一样，我又开始了邀请全世界的明星来上海。

Recently, the agreement between the US and UBS Bank in Switzerland has OPENED the door for the U.S. to get their hands in many off-shore safe havens.  UBS is turning the 250 BIG FISH, but the U.S. is about to start fighting for another 52,000+.accounts.  The Swiss are in an uproar because they see the start of the ENDING of the secrecy banking and without those depositors they are in serious trouble.  Not that everyone that has an account in Switzerland is a tax cheat OR a drug dealer but a large percentage are.  Congress is taking up this matter this coming week and it is just a matter of time before they go after the Channel Islands and of course the Caribbean, etc. etc.

 I learned about Swiss secrecy when I was a young girl and I remember we staying at the Bar Au Lac in Zurich having a ball with money that a friend will take out of an account that the ONLY identification it had was a string of numbers.  Numbers stopped being allowed in the 70's but "certain" amount of secrecy continued.  The "dismantling" of the Swiss banking laws is the equivalent to telling the Pope he doesn't belong in the Vatican.
Everyone is watching this very closely.  Oh, the world is changing so fast!

I was in Manila and was invited by my friend Mayenne Carmona (the famous writer in Manila) to a Philippine Star Ball.  THis is a worldwide competition of ballroom dance much like our wu lin da hui.  Oh what an exciting evening.  I was up till 3am and when I went to bed, these beautiful dancers remained vivid in my mind.  I was twirling and turning and totally engrossed in such beauty. 

This kind of dancing competition is just as vigorous as the Olympics.  They are also the best in the world.  the participants have to spend years of very disciplined work to get to where they are.  and the bodies.  They are totally perfect.  no an ounce of fat.  I was the most entralled person in front of such perfection.
Dancing is good exercise.  I love to use dancing as part of my exercise routine.  It is with beautiful music!!!!!!!

outdoor pool in Chiva-Som

Hua Hin is about 3 hours driving from the Bangkok airport. This Chinese New Year, I decided to ask a few friends of mine and my sisters to join me.  I must say, as usual, this place is forever satisfactory.  One of my good friends was skeptical about spas and was reluctant to come, but he came anyway, and by the time he left 6 days later, he actually did not wish to leave.

Such is the charm of Chivasom.  We all know, in the last 10 years in China, the word Spa is used all over.  A little mom-and pop store with 2 facial and nail operators is called a spa.  Most hotels today claim they have "spa"".  but in reality, the difference is that most of them are hotels, with a spa on the premise. 

The Chivasom however is a spa, totally.  All the facilities are devoted to the creation, maintenance, restoration of health.  Whenever I find that life is getting too unbalanced, I come to this place to balance my body, mind and spirit.

Most health spas serve food not edible.  A lot of people think that if they wish to be healthy, they must eat tasteless food.  It is not so at the Chivasom.  The food here is super delicious.  The menu reminds me of what really healthy food should be.   The last 1.5 years, I have lived in China totally and I have gained so much weight.  Chinese food is actually very fattening, with too much salt, too much oil and far too much in quantity.  we have a habit of serving too much food becuase this is cultural.

Then comes the exercise routine.  From 7 am to 7 pm, there are endless classes you can take.  from Tai Chi Chuan, to Aqua Aerobic (which i love)  to pilates etc.  you can go from class to class all day long totally occupied from the simplest to the most demanding.

Then the massages.  I adore massages.  There are a minimum of 8 types of massages that are done by the most professional masseuses.  (The Chivasom operates a professional massage school in Bangkok to train superb professionals)    Then for your mind, there are private classes of every type you can take too.  This time I took meditation classes from a superb master who got his many degrees from Thailand, Oxford, Harvard and also a university in Hamburg.  It was enlightening to say the least. 

Finally, they even have a beauty salon for everything you will need to make you look beautiful.'

What has changed since 13 years ago?  well, the age of people who come to the spa.  When I first came, the people here were really old,fat and old.  but the age has come down dramatically and while they still have older people, there are also slim and young good looking guests.  The biggest change however is in the ratio between men and women.  It used to be that 90% ladies came, only 10% were men.  Today, amazingly, there is almost  fifty fifty!

 
I have been to many famous total -health spas in the United States. The guests were mostly Americans.   However today at the Chivasom, there are people literally from all over the world: from  Karzastan, Moscow, Hong Kong, singapore, France,  Italy.   Anywhere indeed.  So interesting.  I usually came alone, so i would sit with strangers who soon become friends.
The other new phenomenon this year is that lots of people from China come.  Not native Chinese so much, because the languages spoken here are English an Thai.  I suspect that if you do not speak either of these languages, it would be a little more difficult for you to enjoy this place.

and Jessica  Zhang who is the Managing Director of China for  the concierge service Quintessentially Yours.   Brenda Foster who is the President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai came for a spa day.  Sigrid and Guenther Wecherlein  who used to work for Siemons and who built the famous train Maglef in Shanghai.  I never saw so many people from China before.  I feel totally at home.

Last word:  i must say something about the staff service in this place which  I just have never experienced anywhere else.  The staff here has a habit of not only being totally efficient, but would automatically smile at you WHENEVER you just look their way.  This extends to not only the senior staff members but even the ground sweepers!!!  How they train staff so well, I would never know.  I wish we could get service like this in China.  Thais in general are polite, but the staff here is absolutely out of the ordinary.    Of course, everything starts from the top.  The Swiss General Manager Paul Linder who is not only handsome like a movie star, but is really a fantastic manager.  this place is run like a smooth humming machine!  While most hotels in the world are empty (since no one travels much these days)  this year, this hotel is fully booked.  I could not even add another guest into the hotel while I was there.

This year of the OX, I must concentrate on taking care of my health.  i was under too much stress last year and ignored exercising and eating healthy food. I did not feel well whole year last year.  Chivasom saves my life.  It makes everything right again.
This year is going to be a stressful year due to the global economic downturn.  My wish is that you will take the year to learn things that would benefit you for the rest of your life. For example, learn a new skill, learn to speak English better, or learn to meditate.  get into an exercise routine.  learn to eat well....this learning  should include academic, spiritual and physicial lessons.  Take good care of yourself.

Obama is a man from a simple family. But most of all he is black. He said just 60 years ago his father would not be served in a restaurant in America  yet today a black man with a name called Barak Hussein Obama was made president sworned in a building built by his ancestor black slaves.  If this is not history I do not know what is. There is also a love affair going on now between the American public n their new president.

Obama understands the power of words. His speeches r always powerful. His Inauguration speech though not his greatest was nonetheless exceptionally effective. I am sending it to u for ur enjoyment. If u can study the cadence. The choice of words n the breathe of his vision. This is a highly intelligent man!! Americans this time has voted in a cultural icon, made history n with Obama Harbour great hope for a new beginning. I believe most people r ready for a new start after 8 yrs of fumbling mistakes made by the Bush government. For the good of the Americans n the rest of the world I wish Obama god's guidance to have the  From recent economic disaster we learned that if America is not healthy, we r sick too!!      Recall that earlier generations faced down fascism and communism not just with missiles and tanks, but with sturdy alliances and enduring convictions. They understood that our power alone cannot protect us, nor does it entitle us to do as we please. Instead, they knew that our power grows through its prudent use; our security emanates from the justness of our cause, the force of our example, the tempering qualities of humility and restraint.
     回顾过去，几代人在战胜法西斯主义和共产主义时依靠的不仅仅是导弹和坦克，更是牢固的联盟和不渝的信念。他们懂得单凭实力无法保护我们的安全，实力也并不赋予我们随心所欲的权利。相反，他们知道审慎使用实力会使我们更强大；我们的安全源于事业的正义性、典范的感召力、以及谦卑和克制的平衡作用。
 
     We are the keepers of this legacy. Guided by these principles once more, we can meet those new threats that demand even greater effort ― even greater cooperation and understanding between nations. We will begin to responsibly leave Iraq to its people, and forge a hard-earned peace in Afghanistan. With old friends and former foes, we will work tirelessly to lessen the nuclear threat, and roll back the specter of a warming planet. We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense, and for those who seek to advance their aims by inducing terror and slaughtering innocents, we say to you now that our spirit is stronger and cannot be broken; you cannot outlast us, and we will defeat you.
     我们是这一传统的继承者。我们只要从新以这些原则为指导，就能应对那些新威胁，为此必须付出更大的努力──推动国家间更多的合作与理解。我们将开始以负责任的方式把伊拉克移交给伊拉克人民，并在阿富汗巩固来之不易的和平。我们将与多年的朋友和昔日的对手一道不懈地努力，减轻核威胁，扭转全球变暖的厄运。我们不会在价值观念上退缩，也不会动摇捍卫它的决心，对于那些妄图以煽动恐怖和屠杀无辜的手段达到其目的的人，我们现在就告诉你们，我们的意志更加顽强、坚不可摧；你们无法拖垮我们，我们必将战胜你们。
 
     For we know that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus ― and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth; and because we have tasted the bitter swill of civil war and segregation, and emerged from that dark chapter stronger and more united, we cannot help but believe that the old hatreds shall someday pass; that the lines of tribe shall soon dissolve; that as the world grows smaller, our common humanity shall reveal itself; and that America must play its role in ushering in a new era of peace.
     因为我们知道，我们百衲而成的传统是一种优势，而不是劣势。我们是一个由基督教徒和穆斯林、犹太教徒和印度教徒、以及无宗教信仰者组成的国家。我们受惠于地球上四面八方每一种语言和文化的影响。由于我们饮过南北战争和种族隔离的苦水，走出了那个黑暗时代并变得更加坚强和团结，我们不能不相信昔日的仇恨终有一天会成为过去；部族之间的界线很快会消失；随着世界变得越来越小，我们共同的人性将得到彰显；美国必须为迎来一个和平的新纪元发挥自己的作用。
 
     To the Muslim world, we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect. To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society's ills on the West ― know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy. To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.
     面对穆斯林世界，我们寻求一条新的前进道路，以共同利益和相互尊重为基础。对于世界上那些妄图制造矛盾、将自己社会的弊端归罪于西方的领导人，我们奉劝你们：你们的人民将以你们的建设成就而不是你们的毁灭能力来评判你们。对于那些依靠腐败、欺骗、压制不同意见等手段固守权势的人，我们提醒你们：你们站在了历史错误的一边；但只要你们放弃压迫，我们将伸手相助。
 
     To the people of poor nations, we pledge to work alongside you to make your farms flourish and let clean waters flow; to nourish starved bodies and feed hungry minds. And to those nations like ours that enjoy relative plenty, we say we can no longer afford indifference to the suffering outside our borders; nor can we consume the world's resources without regard to effect. For the world has changed, and we must change with it.
     对于贫困国家的人民，我们保证同你们并肩努力，为你们的农田带来丰收，让清洁的用水取之不竭；使饥饿的身体得以饱食，使饥渴的心灵受到滋润。对于那些象我们一样比较富裕的国家，我们要说我们再不能对他人的苦难无动于衷，也再不能肆意消耗世界的资源。世界已经改变，我们必须与时俱进。
 
     As we consider the road that unfolds before us, we remember with humble gratitude those brave Americans who, at this very hour, patrol far-off deserts and distant mountains. They have something to tell us, just as the fallen heroes who lie in Arlington whisper through the ages. We honor them not only because they are guardians of our liberty, but because they embody the spirit of service; a willingness to find meaning in something greater than themselves. And yet, at this moment ― a moment that will define a generation ― it is precisely this spirit that must inhabit us all.

     For as much as government can do and must do, it is ultimately the faith and determination of the American people upon which this nation relies. It is the kindness to take in a stranger when the levees break, the selflessness of workers who would rather cut their hours than see a friend lose their job which sees us through our darkest hours. It is the firefighter's courage to storm a stairway filled with smoke, but also a parent's willingness to nurture a child, that finally decides our fate.
     虽然政府能有许多作为也必须有许多作为，但最终离不开美国人民的信仰和决心，这便是我国的立国之本。正是因为人们在大堤崩裂时接纳陌生人的关爱之情，正是因为工人们宁愿减少自己的工时而不愿看到朋友失去工作的无私精神，才使我们度过了最暗淡的时光。正是因为消防队员们有勇气冲进浓烟滚滚的楼道，也正是因为做父母的希望培养一个孩子，我们才能决定最后的命运。
 
     Our challenges may be new. The instruments with which we meet them may be new. But those values upon which our success depends ― hard work and honesty, courage and fair play, tolerance and curiosity, loyalty and patriotism ― these things are old. These things are true. They have been the quiet force of progress throughout our history. What is demanded then is a return to these truths. What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility ― a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.

     This is the meaning of our liberty and our creed ― why men and women and children of every race and every faith can join in celebration across this magnificent Mall, and why a man whose father less than sixty years ago might not have been served at a local restaurant can now stand before you to take a most sacred oath.
     这就是我们的自由和我们坚守的信条具有的意义──说明了为什么各种族、各类信仰的男女老少能在这个雄伟的大草坪上欢聚一堂，也说明了为什么今天有人能站在这里进行最庄严的宣誓，但他的父亲在不到60年前还不能在当地餐馆受到接待。
 
     So let us mark this day with remembrance, of who we are and how far we have traveled. In the year of America's birth, in the coldest of months, a small band of patriots huddled by dying campfires on the shores of an icy river. The capital was abandoned. The enemy was advancing. The snow was stained with blood. At a moment when the outcome of our revolution was most in doubt, the father of our nation ordered these words be read to the people:
     "Let it be told to the future world ... that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive...that the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet (it)."
     为此，让我们记住这一天，记住我们是什么样的人，记住我们已经走过了多长的路。在美利坚诞生的年月，在那些最寒冷的日子里，为数不多的爱国者聚集在一条冰河的岸边，身旁的篝火即将熄灭。首都已经撤防。敌人正在进军。雪地沾满了斑斑血迹。在我们的革命何去何从，结局最难以估计的时刻，我国的开国元勋决定向人民宣读以下这段话：
     "让我们昭告未来的世界......在这个酷寒的冬季，万物一片萧苏，只有希望和美德坚忍不拔的时候......这个城市和这个国家，受到共同危难的召唤，挺身而出，奋起迎战。"
 
     America, in the face of our common dangers, in this winter of our hardship, let us remember these timeless words. With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come. Let it be said by our children's children that when we were tested we refused to let this journey end, that we did not turn back nor did we falter; and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God's grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.
      美利坚，在我们面临共同危难之际，在我们遇到艰难险阻的冬日，让我们牢记这些永恒的话语。心怀希望和美德，让我们再一次迎着寒风中流击水，不论什么风暴来袭，必将坚不可摧。今后，让我们的后代子孙如此评说：我们在遇到考验的时候没有半途而废，没有退缩不前，也没有丝毫动摇；让我们全神贯注于前方的目标，感谢上帝对我们的恩典，继承自由这个宝贵的传统，世代相传，永志不忘。

“陈蓉博客”是上海一个很有名的访谈节目，为了2009年的新春，排演了一场晚会。我以前也接受过陈蓉的采访，所以被“要求”在晚会上表演和自己的专业完全“不搭界”的节目。我想，那我就唱歌吧！

要求就是要唱中文歌，我说你要我唱什么啊，陈蓉说，那就唱甜蜜蜜吧！好啊，我赶紧答应下来了，因为我只会唱两首半中文歌，其中的一首就是甜蜜蜜！
