When Erin Fetherston
first burst onto the fashion scene not long ago, I was quite
delighted. I loved her uber-sugary chic frocks; they satisfied my
cravings for a soft, flirty, flouncy sort of femininity. Her
dresses were just the type to stand as a girlishly bold statement
on their own, against bare legs (or black tights, as was styled in
her Fall 2006
collection), dainty little flats, and an impossibly minimal
(stern, even) hairstyle a la Ms. Fetherston's blunt, blonde bob.
(Of course, the only way I could take such a dose of sucrose is to
clash it with some majorly fierce bad-itutde...an intangible
defiance in one's personality and spirit against all the visual
sweetness, if you will.)
Lately, though, her sugar-coated style is getting stale. Part of
that is my own fault; apparently I mistook her sharp, no frills
haircut against her frou-frou frocks for contrast and, thu
