The Long Legs of the Crash: 13 Unexpected Consequences of the Financial Crisis

My bus never comes at once

胡磊

I am waiting for my bus No.66. There are just 2 buses—No.66 and No.929—to pass through the bus stop where I stand. I assume that bus No.66 will come at once.

Several weeks ago, I was waiting for bus No.929 at the same bus stop. Sadly, one croweded bus No.929 was slow in coming nearly a quarter after 5 or 6 uncrowded No.66 had passed by.

But this time, the situation is reversed. After 2 No.929 came across and went away, No.66 is still traceless.

Obviously, this is not the second time that my bus doesn’t come at once. I can’t count it.

Mom said “You Choose”

强茜

In my memories, almost every single day of those childhood years before I left home for college was spent with Mom. Dad far away at work, Mom was my only hope and mainstay. She was the person for me to turn to every time I had a bad day at school. She was always there. We share

Inner Peace Leads to Eternity

王勤钰

Have you ever attempted to escape from the noisy temporal world? Have you ever been touched by the peaceful music which may have flown from God’s hands? Or have you ever stopped for a while and asked yourself what you’ve been chasing for all these moments, days and years.

If, for once, you did take them into serious consideration, some of the fundamental questions that have tortured hundreds and thousands of minds may turn out simple. In a time when fame, money and power almost dominate human socie

Ordinary people may have their own unordinary stories which are usually the result of the way he or she treats an event. Trifles are valueless most of the time, from which I do acquire some truths for life.

Here’s my experience. Every time this year, the campus will be shrouded in the tense atmosphere. That’s a sign – another “Exam Season” is coming. Everyone is struggling to copy the teaching materials. So am I. Gracefully, teachers always deliver the slides to students resulting in the follow-up work left to us. Dissimilarly, some of them, including me, have a heavy habit. Wha

A Seed with Belief

范峥铎

I am a seed—a seed with belief. My owner used to say, “Every seed is a potential plant.” So I often dreamed of being a great tree, offering shade for children to play in; of being a flower in full blossom, demonstrating my beauty for people to appreciate; even of becoming a tuft of grass, acting merely as a foil to tall trees and bright flowers—I don’t care, as long as I can do so

There Is Always Someone Watching You

The first time I watched Lion King, I was 10; the second time, I was 20. Two different times, two different understandings.

Sinba’s father tells him one night when stars twinkle, “All the kings that had passed away turned into stars in the sky and they will always be there watching you.” Being 10 years old, I felt surprised and curious. But when I was 20, I was willing to believe it.

In 2007, I lost my grandfather and aunt. In 2008, I lost my grandmother. Although I knew they would someday leave me, I couldn’t face the reality. It happened so soon. I entered the university with a mixture of anguish and joy. For quite a period of time, I always dreamed that my grandparents brought me up through hardships, that my gran

Forever Young

胡蓓德

I have always believed that cartoons are not only targeted on kids. However old or sophisticated you are, I believe cartoons can still have a bearing on you.

One day I turned on TV for recreation. But soon I found that the affected reality TV shows, the tediously long soap drama were flooding the TV channels, which made me quite sick. So I just drifted aimlessly from one channel to another, hoping that something could lift my spirit. All of a sudden, Toy Story stood out. It reminded me of many things which I had thought I

When I was during my adolescence I was labeled “not quite into music”, though seemingly everybody around me was wearing headphones whenever possible. My friends—if they can still be called friends as their names have been wiped off from my memory since we went our separate ways—would insensitively insist on my hanging out with them in CD stores. I cannot think of more than three times that I said yes—three sunny Sundays which obliged me with no excuses.

     I
