Work summary:
1. Went on with the investigation on dogs along with the propaganda and education of pets’ welfare in Area A of the city. 12 streets have been finished within this week. (Appendix 1)

First successful case of sterilization in Pingyao TNR Program
In the morning of April 24th, the 'Chinese historical and cultural heritage site – Pingyao TNR Program' which is funded by Swiss Animal Protection (SAP) & Marchig Animal Welfare Trust accomplished its first case of dog sterilization. Swiss Animal Protection (SAP) & Marchig Animal Welfare Trust has authorized Pingyao Police Canine department’s partner – Pingyao TNR work station’s director Zhang Yang to present a memorial certificate to the owner of Bean the sterilized dog. Reporters from Pingyao TV station and Shanxi Evening Newspaper have covered the whole process.

“Pingyao section of TNR projects in Chinese noted historic and cultural cities” hold by Swiss Animal Protection (SAP) and Marchig Animal Welfare Trust launched in Pingyao, Shanxi Province at 10:30 a.m., March 25th. Direct Mao of Pingyao County Government Office, direct Liu of Pingyao Foreign Affairs Office and captain Wang, the leader of law and order brigade office public security bureau of Pingyao County attended the ceremony.

Background
The well-preserved historical city Pingyao, being crowned as one
of the perfect Chinese historical sites, attracts tens of thousands
of tourists come from both home and abroad. Contrasted with its
overall cultural and historical pattern, the dog population of this
city, however, turned out to be a central issue due to the out of
control breeding. Lacking of sufficient pet care, most dogs are
suffering from the severe diseases, scavenging for food in the
orderly bin, and fighting and tracing each other on the streets.
These not only constitute the negative effects on Pingyao, but also
pose a health and safe risk on the local people and may even lead
to the infections.
Regarding the issue that how to properly treat these animals, domestic and foreign tourists and residents hold different or sometimes even contradictory opinions: some tourists will spontaneously take care of these stray dogs and cats by feeding them and providin
