   只要是英国公民，包括在英国合法居住的外国人，无论富贵贫穷，就可以享受英国国民医疗服务（NHS,即National Health Service）。即使是到英国工作的记者，或短暂居留的留学生（学习六个月或以上），都可享受这一服务。

    看病的方式与中国不同。首先在居住地选择附近选择一个家庭医生（GP,即Genneral Practionar），在那里登记获得一张MHS卡，就进入NHS系统了。定期检查或小病小痛的，都在这个小诊所进行，免费的。但到药房取药时要缴纳6.4英镑的处方费。只有急诊或专门检查、住院治疗才去医院。同样时免费的，但可能等候的时间较长。医院服务效率低下，是目前民众怨声载道的地方。从上个世纪九十年代起，政府逐渐引入了医疗机构竞争机制，这种状况也在逐步改善。

    NHS 的建立要归功于一个名叫威廉·马斯登的外科医生，他于1828年建立了一家提供医疗咨询和治疗的诊所。他取名伦敦恶性疾病免费治疗综合研究所。这是一座简易的4层楼房，坐落在伦敦市区最贫穷的地区，它的原则是：进入这所医院的唯一通行证是贫穷和疾病。任何贫穷和有病的人，都可以到那里接受免费治疗。马斯登提供免费医疗的行动在整个国家产

   其实对于像我这样三天打渔两天晒网的业余爱好者来说，是没有资格谈论翻译的苦与乐的。记在此处，只为自勉。我有很久没有碰翻译了，这次拿到经济类的文章，专业术语几乎没有，可是翻起来还是有些棘手，速度也回到蜗牛时代，好在在投标结束之前及时发出去了，心里一阵轻松。翻译的时候虽然很冷很累，但是学到了很多东西，而那些东西是我这个家庭主妇从未涉猎的，感到很有意思。太晚了，明天来总结了。

    It is a heavy blow, for a language learner, to find that he or she is still a parrot , parroting others' words all day long.

    What's worse, I have bathing in English for about 13 years, only to find I am a parrot---a green one. I cannot help asking myself 'Am I qualified to be a teacher in this field?' It seems that I must, undoubtedly, learn to make parrot-cry in perfection, the only path to breathe freely between my mother tongue and the foreign language.
