If you know a little about China ,you definitely know 北京 and 南京(京，means capital city in ancient Chinese which can't be used alone in mordern Chinese)。I always use them to teach my beginner students words for four directions: 东、西、南、北。unfortunately, we don't have cities named with 东京、 西京。

why is that?

As a matter of fact, 东京 and 西京 did exist in history.

西京，which is now called 西安（in 陕西province) was a capital for 13 different dynasties.By keeping that in mind , you won't have a hard time to figure it out why 西京国际饭店，西京大学，西京医院 etc in 西安。

东京 ,namely,today's 河南开封（kaifeng)。so ,there are 东京书画院（gallary)、东京医院，开封东京大饭店(hotel) in 开封。

Btw,you might know TOKYO  is 东京 in both Chinese and Japanese,but ,don't mix them up esp. while you're in 开封. those places above have nothing to do with Tokyo at all.

 

 2008年5月12号下午两点多.a title caught my eye while I was browsing news:四川发生7.8级地震。然后，发现各bbs正在谈论刚发生的地震。

 事情就是这样发生了。it just happened ,no reason, no omen,and it could happen to anyone of us. it's like a dream, and i wish that's just nightmare.

 现在，除了关注灾区的救援情况，尽个人能力采取实际行动来帮助灾区人民，我们的生活在像往常一样继续。

1蜜蜂——蝴蝶——蜗牛
