  Be Honest, Be Happy!

On a Friday night, a poor young violinist was playing his violin at the entrance of the subway station. The music was so great that people slowed down to listen and put some money into his hat.

The next day, the violinist came to the entrance again. He put down his hat as usual. Beside the hat was a piece of paper with some words on it. It said, “A George Sang has put an important thing into my hat by mistake. Welcome to claim(认领) it.”

Soon the people were all attracted by the words and wondered what it could be. After a while a man rushed through the crowd, took the violinist’s shoulders and said, “I knew you would c

Dig a Little Deeper

[1] There's a story about the California gold rush that tells of two brothers who sold all they had and went prospecting for gold. They discovered a vein of the shining ore, staked a claim, and proceeded to get down to the serious business of getting the gold ore out of the mine.

[2] All went well at first, but then a strange thing happened. The vein of gold ore disappeared! They had come to the end of the vein, and the spot of gold was no longer there. The brothers continued to pick away, but without success.

[3] Finally, they gave up in disgust. They sold their equipment and claim rights for a few hundred dollars, and took the train back home. Now the man who bought the claim hired an engineer to examine the rock strata of the mine. The engineer advised him to continue digging in the same spot where the former owners had left

The Shoe Tacks

[1] The hardworking blacksmith Jones used to work all day in his shop and so hard working was he that at times he would make the sparks fly from his hammer. The son of Mr. Smith, a rich neighbor, used to come to see the blacksmith everyday and for hours and hours he would enjoy himself watching how the tradesman worked.

[2] “Young man, why don't you try your hand to learn to make shoe tacks, even if it is only to pass the time?” said the blacksmith. “Who knows, one day, it may be of use to you.” The lazy boy began to see what he could do. But after a little practice he found that he was becoming very skilled and soon he was making some of the finest tacks.

[3] Old Mr. Smith died and the son on account of the war lost all his goods. He had to leave home and was forced to take up residence in another country. It so happened that in this

Short Inspirational Parable of the Pencil – Pencil Story

The pencil maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into the box.

“There are five things you need to know,” he told the pencil, “before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be.”

“One: You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in someone’s hand.”

“Two: You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you’ll need it to become a better pencil.”

“Three: You will be able to correct any mistakes you might make.”

Words of Wisdom for Graduates

“I’ve spoken at a few university commencements, and my message is always pretty much the same. I tell graduates to find their treasure. By treasure, I’m not talking about money or material possessions. I’m talking about something in life that they’re passionate about and pursue it. That’s the key to true happiness”.

  “我在几所大学的毕业典礼上都讲了话,观点几乎是一样的。我告诫毕业生们要去寻找自己的财富。我说财富,可不是指金钱或物质财产。我指的是生活中他们会热衷追求的东西。这是得到真正幸福关键。”

2. Brenda Barnes (CEO, Sara Lee)

“Find something that you have a great passion for, as that will make you happy. Take that passion, give it your all, and then not only will you be happy, but you’ll also be successful.”

Building Your House(2009-11-23 11:00)

Building Your House

An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer contractor of his plans to leave the house-building business to live a more leisurely life with his wife and enjoy his extended family. He would miss the paycheck each week, but he wanted to retire. They could get by.

The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but over time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career.

The Gift

[1] It was well after mid night, wrapped in my warm 1)fleecy robe I stood silently staring out the ninth floor window of the daunting New York hospital. I was staring at the 59th Street Bridge. It was as sparkling and beautiful as a Christmas tree. New York city has always been special to me; the Broadway theatre, the music, the restaurants from the 2)deli's to the 3)Tavern-On-the-Green. 'This is what the city is supposed to be about, ' I thought, 4)dreading the morning to come and all the uncertainty it held. Eleven hours and forty-five minutes later I was wheeled into a recovery room and a very few hours after being returned to my own hospital room I found myself actually on my feet, half walking, half 5)propelled by medical equipment and members of my family.
