Shanghai Breezes
Breezes whistled its melody over Peace
Hotel,
Scenting you
and me
with Magnolia;
Breezes rang the sound of Customs
Bell,
Caressing your cheek and combed my
hair;
Breezes trembled
your words to trickle,
That puffed into serene river as threads of
tear;
Breezes now around your empty seat
rustle
Through the starry river and carry me your
sigh;
Your words sunk under water, companied by
Pearl
Come to echo my ear and to startle the
air;
Do Breezes haunt your
heart, you sing still
In the street of your Kosovo to see
gunfire?

Sonnet: Psalm of
Life
---Written aft reading
Longfellow’s
by
Louisa
Louisa 著/译
Once pretty Life was like the peach
petals,
Still it could not help but fade in the
grove.
It may relive to bloom after it
falls,
But oft bury its dimple to poetic
grave.
Once calm Life was like a moon up
Still it couldn’t stop itself from wax to
wane.
It lingers among clouds outside
But sheds its beam to dreams below the
pane.
Once brilliant Life was like sun of
morning,
It dooms to drop in the west after
all.
Behind the hills it sinks in the
gloaming,
No way but mourns itself along the vale.
Short is Life, as if not existing
anon,
But ne’er beyond its eternal
reason.
Theme in
Yellow
By Carl Sandburg
I spot the
hills
With yellow balls in
autumn.
I light the prairie
cornfields
Orange and tawny gold
cluster
And I am called
pumpkins.
On the last of
October
When Dusk is
fallen
Children join
hands
And circle round
me
Singing ghost
songs
And love to the harvest
moon;
I am a jack-o’-
lantern
With terrible
teeth
And the children
know
I am
fooling.
Carl Sandburg 著
Louisa
他们爱这样的圆月;
