穆索尔斯基:荒山之夜
迪斯尼幻想2000的影片中有这么一幕场景，夜幕下一群长着翅膀的食尸鬼雪恨般地蹂躏着一个山村，就是根据穆索尔斯基的荒山之夜想象而成的。穆索尔斯基的这部音乐诗描述了女巫安息日黑暗的宗教仪式。可惜的是，他生前并没有上演过，后经里姆斯基·科萨科夫改编一举成为音乐会上的热门曲目。幻想2000中的版本是由列奥波尔德·斯托科夫斯基指挥的。
海因里希·奥古斯特·马施纳：吸血鬼（序曲）
海因里希·奥古斯特·马施纳的大型歌剧吸血鬼（1928）是根据拜伦的一部小说中的某些片断创作的，然而却是由他的医生最后完成的。吸血鬼玛斯登伯爵请求吸血鬼王在他下地狱之前再给他一年在人间的时间。鬼王同意了，条件是第二天午夜之前，他必须祭献三个少女给鬼王。马施纳的这段音乐和其中女巫们的合唱均充满了阴邪的色彩。

 The sky over Beijing momentarily cleared the day of my recital
and the sun shone. How different the city looked! The traffic was
terrible. It took 45 minutes to get me to the concert hall the
evening of my performance—a drive that should really only take
about ten. It was right in the middle of “Golden Week”, the Chinese
national holiday, and there were record number of tourists in
Tiananmen Square and The Forbidden City. Having visited the latter
back in 1993, I didn’t go again. The National Centre for the
Performing Arts is an amazing place—as gigantic in scope as
Beijing’s new airport. It not only houses a concert hall, but also
an opera house and a theatre under the same roof. Tourists pay just
to get inside to see the building. The concert hall is
