In the history of a college student, a lot of things happen almost by chance. Choosing classes in college happens to be one of those things. Pending, fully enrolled, waiting approval. The fact about choosing classes at the beginning of a semester, is that you never actually get to choose the right ones. Despite what you want, despite what your parents want, despite what you studied before – there are just times when you have to hop onto whatever courses is left open, and hope for the best.

Dad has always told me not to study useless things in college. As a declared Political Science major, I think I'm pretty low on the 'useless things' ivory tower – but deep inside, an journey to Berkeley has really awakened that 'book-worm' side of me. Isn't that bookish life just idyllic? Sipping coffee, walking to your morning Philosophy lecture, spending t

William's Travel Tips #1 (Mileage Will Vary)

*Not exactly a travel tip, but study hard if you want to go on an exchange. Auckland Abroad specifies a GPA of 5.0, but aim higher because higher is better and you should really summon your inner will-to-power instead of partying all the time, right?

*University rankings are important, but choose a host university that you would like to live in. Choosi

The Not-So-Ordinary Adventures of an Ordinary Exchange Student at the University of California, Berkeley

Episode 1

California feels like a distant dream to me. A surreal reverie. I knew that the place produced people like Jack Kerouac and fruits like Californian raisins. I knew that the place is home to Hollywood, 90210, those trams that go up and down San Francisco and that nostalgic Hilary Duff opening to Laguna Beach. Oh, and there's also Berkeley. As I fantasized about California in my bedroom, I was brutally awakened from my reveries thanks to my mother. I had two hours left before my plane leaves for the New World.

Like every other nearly-grown man who's about to sep

The Not-So-Ordinary Adventures of an Ordinary Exchange Student at the University of California, Berkeley

About This Blog

Welcome to my blog! As the title suggests, this is a blog of an ordinary exchange student on a not-so-ordinary adventure (in California, no less!). Here you will find bits and pieces about my life here in Berkeley, California, interesting things that I've seen along the way perhaps even a travel tip here and there. I’ll be here for the next four months, so we are on a long, long ride.

Discrepancies between Theory and Practice in Wordsworth’s Lyrical Ballads: an Analysis of “The Thorn” and “The Idiot Boy” with References to the Preface

By William Zhang

Wordsworth declared, in the Preface to the Lyrical Ballads, that the feelings developed in his poetry “gives importance to the action and situation”.[1] In other words, the purpose of rendering emotion, for Wordsworth, is ultimately to highlight the significance of the action and situation. However, this essay argues that Wordsworth’s own descriptions to his two poems (“The Thorn” and “The Idiot Boy”) are ultimately inaccurate, and that his original aims were not fulfilled in the ways his poems were actually presented.

148、最后的Update

147、William’s Wonderful Endeavours Into Being a Chinese Teacher

(Seriously)

我的疯狂英语

Okay, I’ll be frank. I’ve always wanted a job, badly. Unfortunately, the recent economical fiasco have messed up everything, including my chances of earning some cash and transform my social status from a kid feeding off my parents to that of a delinquent teenager desperately trying to stay alive by himself by feeding on potatoes 24/7.

I looked everywhere, honest. At first,

What’s on the mind of Steven Spielberg?

 斯皮尔伯格的三部电影评论

Introduction:

The films I have researched are all directed by the renowned American director, Steven Spielberg. They are, in the order of release date, Empire of the Sun (太阳帝国, 1987), A.I. Artificial Intelligence (人工智能, 2001) and Catch Me If You Can (逍遥法外 / 猫鼠游戏, 2002). Although the three films are set in different eras, they deal with common issues such as how family trauma can affec
