Fast growing social network Facebook has hit the 100 million users mark, according to a statement today by Dave Morin, the company's Senior Platform Manager.

How does that compare to MySpace's ascent? A guy named Rick appears to have become MySpace's 100 millionth registered user in 2006. MySpace took 3 years after launch to hit that magic number; for Facebook it took 4 years and 6 months.

Yahoo’s stake in Yahoo Japan is often cited as one of its most valuable assets, and indeed Yahoo is considering selling it as a quick fix to appease angry shareholders in the U.S. While Yahoo seems to be treading water in the US, Yahoo Japan is sitting on top of the Japanese web industry. In fact, Yahoo Japan’s market cap at the Tokyo stock exchange is hovering at around $22 billion, compared to Yahoo’s current $27 billion. Fiscal 2007 marked the 11th consecutive year of profitability and record revenues: Yahoo Japan’s sales grew 23.3% to $2.4 billion (Yahoo in the US: $7 billion) on a year-to-year basis, with a net income of $570 million (US: $660 million).

With 46 million monthly unique visitors, according to comScore, Yahoo Japan reaches 82 percent of all Internet users in the country. I came across an interesting survey conducted by iSHARE. They asked users about their expectations toward iPhone and other next generation device features. The responses didn’t surprise and confirmed the industry trend – mobile phones to become as powerful and feature-rich as computers. 由于用户流失及运营失误,Sprint Nextel上季度亏损了290亿美元,流失了68.3万签约用户。为了吸引新用户,抗争竞争对手AT&T 和Verizon ,Sprint Nextel推出一项新的无限制套餐。

Sprint Nextel将新计划命名为“一切至简”(Simply Everything)套餐,这套每月$99.9美元的套餐提供了无限通话、短信和上网服务,而 AT&T 和Verizon 的 $99.99 无限制套餐中上网服务还需另外付费。

但Sprint Nextel的无限制套餐中并不包括下载音乐,游戏,铃声等业务,用户需另付费用来享受下载业务。

原Sprint用户可以在原合约基础上转换成无限制套餐,无需延长原合同期限,而新客户则需要签订两年合同。

在目前服务质量投诉不断的不利情形下,Sprint推出无限制套餐目的显然是为了留住老用户,吸引更多新签约用户。

Mobage-town: Japan’s Biggest Mobile-Only Social Network

虽然口号已经喊得很响了,西方的移动社区还在尝试阶段。在日本,移动社区却已成现实。DeNA开发的移动SNS/虚拟世界/游戏平台Mobage-town风靡全日本。而前不久,DeNA在加州San Mateo 设立美国办公室,计划在今年秋天推出Mobage-town 英文版本。

在Mobage-town ,用户可以在社区里收发信息,聊天,共享音乐,阅读电子小说,博客。但是该站点吸引用户注册的杀手级应用却是大量可供选择的免费游戏。

Mobage-town 拥有1100万用户,每个用户都有一个虚拟形象,住在虚拟房间里。用户可以使用DeNA发行

Sharemo: How Japanese people share used stuff using their cell phones

日本出现一个社会化共享服务网站Sharemo:人们可以通过手机交换闲置物品。该网站成立目的是解决日本社会上的奢侈浪费问题。

它的工作流程是:用户在Sharemo上展示自己的闲置物品(DVD, 漫画和服装比较受欢迎)。如果这些人需要某个闲置,它可以被出租,使用,然后重新收回.直到一名用户买下该物品,循环出租的流程就结束了。系统向激活用户展示物品的状态和分配。

Get ready for a stream of ad dollars.

emarketer预测美国在线视频广告支出今年将达到5.05亿,而且年支出增长至少持续到2013年。2012年将在2011年基础上增长78.9%达到34万美元。

支出的快速增长意味着到2013年广告商在视频广告上的投入将是今年支出的10倍以上。

“广告商追随用户眼球”对于在线广告来说实在是真理。美国超过一半的人口观看在线视频,emarketer预测到2012年美国在线视频观看者数量将达到1.9亿。

emarketer高级分析师 David Hallerman说:尽管广告投放商会追随用户眼球,但是他们也只是试探性地投放视频广告。找到最适合视频内容的广告形式是目前最大的问题之一。

 

eMarketer predicts online video ad spending in the US will reach $505 million this year and keep climbing through at least 2013. Over the next five years, growth will peak in 2012 at 78.9% above the 2011 spending level—reaching $3.4 billion.

Vatata: Chinese P2P TV Coming to Set-Top Boxes

 

 

中国P2P解决方案提供商Vatata近日开发出一套机顶盒解决方案,能够向用户提供类似Joost的P2P电视体验。该机顶盒不仅能接入Vatata的P2P网络,还能接入公共P2P网络,并支持电驴和BT等下载协议。Vatata表示,该公司目前在中国已有3家客户,包括电视机厂商创维。该公司目前正在与美国的数家潜在客户进行谈判。

 

Chinese P2P solutions provider Vatata, whose similarly named P2P streaming platform Vakaka we wrote about last year, has developed a set-top box solution to bring a Joost-like P2P TV experience to the living room. It provides access to both the company’s own P2P network for live streaming video as well as public P2P networks and protocols such as Emule, Gnutella and BitTorrent for media downloads.

Facebook已经成为全球最大的社交网站,6月份独立访问量达到13.2亿,而且,它也成为几大社交网站中发展最快一个。

根据comscore的数据显示,Facebook的年度访问量增长了153个百分点,而myspace才增长了3个百分点。

其它一些全球化的社交网站如Friendster,Hi5,虽然访问量不足Facebook一半,发展势头也不容小觑,分别达到100个50个百分点的增长。而Orkut和Bebo访问量也分别有41和32个百分点的增长。

如果将Facebook全球各地区表现进行比较,我们看到它在北美地区仍然维持了38%--每月4.9亿独立访问量--的健康发展。欧洲地区发展速度几乎达到北美的10倍--每月拥有3.5亿独立访问量。而其他地区的发展由于基数小,发展更是迅速,中东和非洲403个百分点,亚太458个百分点,拉美甚至达到1055个百分点的增长。

这些惊人的增长速度主要因为Facebook之前并没有在这些地区推广,最近它开始将网页翻译成不同语言进行扩张。而1年以前,Facebook在拉美只有100万,中东300万,亚太400万的月访问量,所以看到1055倍增长这样的数字时,也不要惊讶。而且,Facebook在这些新推广地区发展也不是一帆风顺,比如在日本,它就遇到不少困难。
