Baseball Injury Analysis Finds Early Season and Pitching Riskier

New York Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte had to leave Sunday's game against Tampa in the third inning because of a strained groin. He thus slightly beat the odds. Because his injury happened after the All-Star Game, which was last Tuesday. And a new study finds that more than three-quarters of injuries to major league pitchers during the course of a season occur before the all-star break.

The data on baseball injuries was presented the same day as Pettitte's early departure at the annual meeting of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine in Providence, Rhode Island. [Matthew Posner et al., http://bit.

Does Easier-prepared food improve the way people live

Nowadays, people can prepare their meal in a easier way than before. To prepare one dinner, housewives usually have to work for hours in the past:they had to buy dirty vegetables which had to wash, meat which had to slice, and so forth. Each and every preparation will have to take a lot of time. But now, things become different.Supermarkets provide vegetables and meat clean and neat, and some of them might only need a few minutes to make them into a delicious meal. And this change indeed improve our way fo life.It makes food preparation a much easier work to do.Such as these changes liberate lots of housewives and give them their own time to do many meaningful things or things they are interested, for example, taking part in some society activities.

Moreover, more men are willing to prepare meal for their families. This can be a positive impact on the family. It's not hard to

BBC

They say every picture tells a story, but sometimes the picture doesn't tell the whole story. In the vaults of Britain's National Archives are thousands of fascinating pictures, mainly photographs taken from the files of the old Colonial Office documenting Britain's age of empire. And the Archives are about to launch a unique experiment with these photographs. They're publishing them all in the hope that people around the world might recognise someone or something in them and be able to provide names and background information about the pictures. At the moment, the most areas on these photos is a simple tantalising one-line caption. The first pictures to be published are all of Africa. They started in the 19th century and ended around 1960. Jenny Orm is from the National Archives.

'What we're doing are putting them online, and for the first time really opening up our collection to as many people as possible, and asking them to tell us what they know about

Are Parents the Best Teachers

Obviously,in most cases the earlist teachers people have are their parents, and certainly parents are people who most care about their children. However,it doesn't mean that parents must be the best teachers.

As all we know, some parents more or less have some bad habits.Even though parents almost completely devote themselves in cultivating their children, the result might turn out to be disappointment, for all children just copy everything including some bad habits from their.

Another problem is that most parents are lack of common sense of education. There are a lot people we know they  force their children to realize the dreams that they pursued but failed when they were children. But they never cares about whether their children like it or not.

Moreover, some parents may be qualified as good teachers, but not all of them are the best ones.Whe children are in premilinary schools,it is not suprising

Physics Students Reveal Bias for Male Lecturers

Why aren't there more women physicists, and in senior positions? One factor may be unconscious biases that could keep women physicists from advancing—and may even prevent women from going into physics in the first place.

Amy Bug, a physicist at Swarthmore University, examined the bias question.* Her research team trained four actors—two men, two women—to give a 10-minute physics lecture. Real physics classes watched the lecturers. Then the 126 students were surveyed.

When it came to questions of physics ability—whether the

'Out, damned spot! Out, I say! Hell is murky. Yet who would have thought the old man to have had so much blood in him?'

Shakespeare's famous sleepwalking scene: Lady Macbeth, driven by guilt over her part in regicide, wanders through her castle. And sleepwalking is more common than you might think. One in five children and one in ten adults sleepwalk at some time. And research in the US has identified that the disorder may run in families, giving hope that some kind of genetic therapy may one day be possible. Dr Dev Banerjee is a consultant sleep physician based at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital in England. He told Dan Damon about some of the cases of sleepwalking he's come across.

'I think the majority of those that sleepwalk is fairly harmless and quite normal actually, but there are a proportion that do injure themselves falling down the stairs. So I've got someone from Bristol who put his hand through a glass window and severed his radia

VOA慢速

Egypt is the biggest of the nations hit by recent protests in North Africa and the Middle East. One of the causes of this spreading wave of popular dissatisfaction is a lack of economic progress.

Egypt is not a major oil exporter and its economy is not big enough to affect world economic growth. But important pipelines cross Egypt. And Egypt controls the Suez Canal. About 8% of world shipping passes through this link between Europe and Asia. That includes 2,000,000 barrels of oil each day, mainly to Europe.

Many experts say they expect the canal to remain open. Still, concerns about the Suez have pushed oil prices to their highest levels since 2008.

Fariborz Ghadar heads the Center for Global Business Studies at Penn State University. He says poverty in Egypt remains high -- up to 40% in some areas.
