I pledge allegiance to the
flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which

Ordinarily I don’t pay attention, just saying the words and moving
on. But in the past few years after the wiretapping scandal, Abu
Ghraib prison incidents, and the ongoing Iraq war, I began to think
